HOW TO ENTER COPIED DATA TO RECYCLEGEN back to Copy Instructions
Step 1.: Leaving the text file with the copied text open and minimised, connect to the Internet and open Recyclegen website.
Step 2.: On the first page that is opening, scroll down and find the Enter button, see picture below:
Step 3.: Click on "Enter" and you will find yourself on the pasting page. This page (part of which is shown below) is the one you need to put (paste) your copied data onto Recyclegen.
Step 4.: Box: Own roll call
You now have to decide on the title of your entry. This title will appear on Recyclegen in big bold letters, and this title is what the researchers will see when they hit your entry after searching. We recommend that you use a short but relevant title.
Step 5.: Box: Email or name
Enter your email or at least your name. Remember, Recyclegen is a private, family website, with no sponsors and no affiliations. So your email is not going to be used by anyone else. The only people that will see your email is the Recyclegen genealogy researchers. Imagine your long lost cousin found your entry and could not contact you !
Step 6.: Box: Genealogy related text only...
This is the main pasting box. Click in the top left corner of the white area under the title "Genealogy related text only..." so that you see the cursor blinking at the top left corner of the white area.
Step 7.: On your browser, at the top menu, click on Edit and Paste. This places the text you previously copied into the white area. It could take several seconds for the text to be pasted, if it is a long text (or your modem connection is slow). You can check whether the pasting has finished by pressing the Up Arrow key on your keyboard. If there is nothing, then just wait a few moments more and try again with the up arrow. You will now see the end of your text (if it is long), and you can scroll up and down your pasted text by using the Up and Down Arrows on your keyboard.
Note: If your text did not appear in the box, you will have to click on the minimised text file and copy the text again. After that, if you have successfully completed Steps 1-6 , then start here, from Step 7 again.
Step 8.: Check that the text is what you wanted and scroll down a little using the bar at the far right of your monitor. You will now see the following on your screen:
Step 9.: Box: Comments to Recyclegen
To encourage people to say what they think of our site, we have, for now, made it impossible for users to Submit data untill they enter the comment. Therefore, click in the white area under the title "Comments..." so that the cursor starts blinking, then write your comments directly there.
Step 10.: Now that you have finished it all, you are ready to click on Submit. This will send it to the site, and from this moment on it will be available for all Recyclegen researchers to see. Do not click anything untill you get the confirmation screen, as below:
Step 11.: When this page is completely opened, a few moments later click
on the
return to the contents page (at the bottom of the picture above).
Note: If you cannot see your entry, with the title you have entered, at the top (as the last entry), you HAVE TO click on the button "Refresh" at the top of your browser, or go to the menu View - Refresh. (At this point, DO NOT click on "View The Latest" link on the page, because if you do, your entry might be entered twice.) Wait for the page to re-load and now you should see your entry, which you will recognise by the title.
If you wish to view your newly entered data, to see it how other researchers will see it, just click on the title and a separate page with your entry will open.
